An AI newsletter that reads for me

Too many AI sources, not enough time to read them. I automated the reading and kept the judgement in a rubric I can edit.

Three Make scenarios: collect, curate, write. A small dashboard watches what each run costs.

Approach

Split the job in three so each part can fail on its own without breaking the rest. Version every prompt, so a change in quality can be traced to a change in wording.

What I built

  • Scheduled collection from RSS, YouTube, Atom and Reddit, with deduplication
  • Curation by Claude against a scoring rubric
  • A second model writes the email HTML, sent through Gmail with a copy in Drive
  • A cost dashboard reading the Anthropic and Make APIs

What broke

  • Long articles were cut at 1,000 characters, so the curator judged intros, not content
  • Items were sliced differently between steps, so counts did not match
  • Some links were dead by the time the email went out

Result

Draft: numbers and a real issue go here once one full run is published.

Next

Fix the three issues above, run it weekly for a month, then decide if it deserves readers.

Built with AI assistance: Claude Code wrote most of the scripts; I designed the flow, the rubric and the checks.
